Nature Tapestries @ Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
Friday, January 2, 2026 | 11:00am-12:00pm
Natalie Eva Clark of Black Candy Design created the tapestries at the entrance to our exhibit ‘By A Thread: Nature's Resilience’-- now she's going to teach you to make your own!
Learn how to weave a nature-based design on a small frame loom. We’ll experiment with a variety of natural fibers like cotton, flax and nettle and learn how to incorporate grasses and other plant materials into an unexpected and colorful composition that celebrates the winter season.
Beginner friendly! All supplies provided. One tapestry includes admission for the whole family. Additional tapestries are available to add-on to your admission.
Family and Family+ Members get discounted admission to this workshop. Please reach out to programs@naturemuseum.org with any questions.
Linen Appliqué Fiber Collage
Thursdays, January 15- February 19, 2026 | 5pm- 7pm
$400 for 6 weeks
In this 6-week course, students will learn a selection of topstitches, surface design techniques, natural and synthetic dye processes, and color + shape composition tips. Throughout, students will be applying these techniques to create their own experimental fiber collage from dyed cotton and linen. Students will choose to prepare their fiber collage to be hangable either by pole pocket with a dowel, or stretched onto a canvas. Along with their finished work, each student will take home a kit with a stitch guide, needle, thread and dyed remnants in order to continue their practice, and add any further embellishments to their work. This class will be packed with technical and material knowledge, as well as support and guidance in developing a unique visual language.
Kids’ Figure Drawing Class
Saturdays, January 24- February 28, 2026 | 10am- 11am
$250 for 6 weeks
Have fun learning how to capture the human form in this fun and interactive class (ideal for kids ages 8-12). Class size is very limited to allow for plenty of individual attention.
In the first half of each class, we’ll cover skill building: tips for proportioning the body, shadow and light, and perspective drawing, exploring a variety of materials including charcoal, pastels and oil sticks. In the second half of each class, students will have the option to take turns posing as the model for quick warm-up sketches, followed by self-portraiture with optional costume accessories. Each student will finish the course with a collection of sketches, and a finished self-portrait as their chosen alter ego. This class will be jam-packed with new skill-building and lots of silly fun!
